Apples are by far America's favorite fruit. North Carolina consistently ranks seventh in apple production in the United States. North Carolina has over 300 commercial apple growers comprised of 10,000 acres of apple orchards. 8 million bushels of apples are produced in a given year. 40% of the state's crop is marketed as fresh apples through packing/shipping operations and marketing outlets while the remaining 60% is utilized in the processing industry, mainly as apple sauce and juice.

There are numerous Food Safety Societies worldwide both national and international. Food Safety and Food Safety Societies in different parts of the world are as follows:

  • American Food Safety Societies: USA is considered to be the hub of research. The United States Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as "limited or indefinite availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to attain suitable foods in socially acceptable ways. National Food Security Surveys are the main survey tool used by the USDA to measure food security in US. Based on respondents' answers to survey questions, the household can be placed on a continuation of food security defined by the USDA. There are several societies working on different field, out of which almost 75 USA Food Safety Societies and associations are present.
  • European Food Safety Societies: More than 52 Food Safety Societies in Europe are contributing towards Food Safety research activities through their annual congress, journal and newsletters. The work of EFSA covers all matters with a direct or indirect impact on food and feed safety, including animal health and welfare, plant protection and plant health and nutrition. EFSA supports the European Commission, the European Parliament and EU member states in taking effective and timely risk management decisions that ensure the protection of the health of European consumers and the safety of the food and feed chain. EFSA also communicates to the public in an open and transparent way on all matters within its remit.
  • Asia-Pacific Food Safety Societies: There are almost 32 Asian Food Safety Societies working on human, animal as well as plant Food Safety. In Asia, not a week goes by without another new food safety scandal making headlines, from contamination and food poisoning, to mislabelling and product recalls. Nine Fleishman Hillard offices in APAC have been monitoring trends in the industry since the start of 2016 in order to better understand why these food safety issues seem to be increasing in frequency, as well as the impact heightened media scrutiny is having on food and beverage brands in the region.
  • Middle East Food Safety Societies: Despite the fact that the Middle East is blessed with a rich geological inheritance of hydrocarbons and mineral resources, it is a water-scarce and arid region that has its share of demographic and socio-economic problems. The region is highly vulnerable to fluctuations in international commodity markets because of heavy dependence on imported grains and food items. In Middle East nearly 15 Food Safety Associations are present. These societies are organizing annual and biannual Food Safety Annual Conferences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
  • Food Safety Societies Conferences: There are almost 100 Food Safety Meetings and conferences which are scheduled by the Food Safety societies for the year 2016 and 2017 in different parts of the globe. These international Food Safety Conferences and Food Safety Annual Meetings are intended to bring together all the recent researches, new innovations and findings in a global platform.
