American Dairy Goat Association

The association was organized in 1905 as the American Milch Goat Record Association, and published its first herd book in 1914. It published Volumes 11-23 of the American milch goat record in 1921; a comprehensive compilation of details on its registered animals. According to the Missouri Secretary of State, the non profit corporation was created on January 15, 1944, as the American Milk Goat Record Association. On 22 July 1965, its board accepted a proposal to change the name of the organization from its original name to its present name. Many of the historical records kept by the association were in bad shape from age and mould. The association transferred these records to the United States Department of Agriculture's National Agriculture Library Dairy Science Collection for historical preservation. The records date from 1914 to the 1950s with some dating as late as the year 2000. The organization that proudly serving the dairy goat industry since 1904, with over two million goats registered, we are the largest and fastest growing dairy goat organization and registry in the United States. The updated health regulations are before unloading livestock, a state veterinarian must check all livestock to insure health and well-being of all animals exhibiting at the ND State Fair, Out-of-state Goats will need a Certificate of veterinary inspection, permit, and Brucellosis and Tuberculosis test within 30 days for all dairy breeds. All goats that come to the Fair, with the exception of market wither goats, must have their scrape identification tags. Call the Federal Veterinarian’s office in your state to obtain your Scrape Eradication Program tags or obtain them from your local veterinarian. A ‘breed registration tattoo’ will be accepted in lieu of a scrape tag for dairy breed goats. Goats from the former TB management zone in Minnesota must test negative for tuberculosis within 60 days prior to importation, each animal must have its identification number listed on the health papers. It is not acceptable to list: “32 head of goats - all free of disease.” List each animal separately. Base date for age is Sept. 1. Registration papers may be checked. Only two entries in the individual rings and one in the groups will be accepted from any exhibitor. Premiums are paid on only 2 entries per lot. Any lot containing over 24 head shall be split by birth date. All animals must have association registration papers. Photocopies will not be accepted. All registration papers must be presented when the animals are checked in at the Expo Barn Office. Animals must be exhibited in the officially recorded owner’s name. Get of Sire to be listed under one person’s name, even though the animals may be owned by other individuals. The American Dairy Goat Association or ADGA is a United States not-for-profit corporation dedicated to dairy goats. Its purpose is to promote the dairy goat industry, by providing and circulating sound information about goats and goats' milk; maintaining and publishing herd books and production records of milk goats; and issuing certificates of registration and recordation; improving and developing the milk goat breeds; and providing publicity and service for the goat dairying industry. The principal operation of the corporation is in Columbia, Missouri, and its headquarters are in Spindale, North Carolina.
