International Bone And Mineral Society

IBMS started as the Parathyroid Conferences, a triennial event from 1960 to 1977. In 1980, the group was incorporated in Quebec, Canada under the name International Conferences on Calcium Regulating Hormones. In 1995 the name was changed to IBMS and it was registered as an organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C., United States. The mission of theIBMR is to promote excellence in bone and mineral research, foster integration of clinical and basic science, and facilitate the translation of that science to health care and clinical practice. The Society’s broad goals include supporting the educational development of future generations of basic and clinical scientists, and disseminating new knowledge in bone and mineral metabolism.

The Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS) is a not-for-profit collegiate organization and principal professional body for scientists and clinicians involved in bone and mineral metabolism research in Australia and New Zealand.

Since its inception in 1988, the ANZBMS has become one of the premier bone research societies in Australia, with its members recognized for their outstanding contributions made to clinical and biomedical musculoskeletal research. The ANZBMS continues to act as a policy advisor to governments and the community throughout Australasia on issues such as clinical bone disease and funding for musculoskeletal research.

The major goal of the ANZBMS is the nurturing, development and dissemination of new knowledge regarding bone and mineral metabolism, with particular emphasis on issues of clinical relevance. The ANZBMS aims to promote excellence in bone and mineral research, to foster the integration of clinical and basic science, and to facilitate the translation of our science to health care. The society prides itself of its continued and successful activities to advance the education of clinicians, allied health professionals and the public in the nature of and management of diseases impacting upon the skeleton.

The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) is a professional, scientific and medical society established in 1977 to promote excellence in bone and mineral research and to facilitate the translation of that research into clinical practice. The ASBMR has a membership of nearly 4,000 physicians, basic research scientists, and clinical investigators from around the world.

In the 1970s, a growing number of US-based scientists began to focus their research on the understanding of basic bone biology and the disease osteoporosis. This led to the rise of a new field – bone and mineral research.
